Honey rocks. Mihret is promoting the concept of replacing traditional hives with modern crafted ones. This alone will triple the production with an expected annual production of 35 kg per year. Our expanded program is focusing on starting 10 regional Unions, each made up of 4 families with 5 hives each. Our objective is to place these hives with family units limited in their ability to farm or who are struggling. With a total of 200 hives organized in groups, this will foster cooperation, education, and collectivization of the honey to maximize profits. Each of the Unions will be well supplied with foundation wax, suits, smokers, and all other necessary equipment, plus provided the best ongoing training as they begin their enterprise. Conservatively, the families in these unions will easily pay off their loans back to the Cooperative bank, plus 5 hives, and in addition have a solid cashflow that will support their family for years to come. In turn, the returned funds will be sent back out to equip a second cycle of new families within the Union areas – a truly self-sustaining and growing program.
